Age
Age
Each sapien has an age associated with it, representing its current stage of life. This can be viewed in the tribe window, listing the sapiens of the tribe, or by directly clicking on the sapien. There are 4 primary stages of life of a sapien. A sapien's age is counted by days.
Each sapien has an age associated with it, representing its current stage of life. Sapiens live for a total of 70 days, though the in-game UI displays their age as 5 at birth and 75 at the end of their lifespan.

Baby
Baby
For a short time after birth (1 day), a sapien will be carried by its mother, shown by the mother’s status of “carrying baby”, which prevents skills which require heavy lifting from being performed.
* Duration: 1 day.
* Status: Carried by the mother; the mother cannot perform skills requiring heavy lifting during this time.
* Gender: Determined by a random 50/50 roll at the moment of birth.

Child
Child
After growing up from being a baby, a sapien will be independent, and a child, until age 11 (10 days after becoming a child). Children are distinguishable from their small size, and they function mostly as an adult sapien, although they are unable to perform skills which require heavy lifting, and are unable to become pregnant or carry a baby.
* Duration: 10 days.
* Physical Limits: Cannot perform heavy lifting, carry babies, or become pregnant.
* Movement: 1.1x walk speed multiplier. Animation speed is 1.5x faster to account for smaller leg span.
* Eye Height: 0.9m (Standing) / 0.6m (Sitting).

Adult
Adult
During this phase of life, which makes up the majority of the lifespan of a sapien (40 days, age 11 to age 50), a sapien can perform all tasks, provided it is not carrying a baby or pregnant, both of which prevent skills which require heavy lifting from being performed. It can also become pregnant and have children if it is female.
* Duration: 50 days.
* Capabilities: Primary labor phase with a 1.5x walk speed multiplier.
* Reproduction: Females are fertile until they reach 70% of this stage (Day 46 of total life). There is a 4.1-day minimum cooldown between pregnancies.
* Eye Height: 1.5m (Standing) / 0.8m (Sitting).

Elderly
Elderly
Elderly sapiens (age 51 to 60) will be unable to perform tasks which require heavy lifting, and cannot get pregnant or have children (please confirm). They will have gray hair, and require more rest, and get overworked and fatigued more easily.
* Duration: 10 days.

* Physical Limits: Cannot perform heavy lifting or reproduce. Moves at base (1.0x) speed.
Death
* Death: Occurs automatically once the 10-day duration is complete.

* Eye Height: 1.5m (Standing) / 0.8m (Sitting).
Death happens to every sapien eventually, and can occur in several different ways, although sapiens will often leave the tribe before some means of death can occur, such as starvation. When a sapien dies, any of its family members (visible from the sapiens menu in the tribe window, in the family tree of the sapien) will suffer from a major negative status effect, causing their happiness to be 0, although their loyalty will be unaffected. The grieving sapiens will need some time away from work to recover.

When a death occurs, a notification will display, detailing the name of the sapien, their portrait, and the cause. The sapien will then despawn from the game.

Old Age
The most common cause of death, as sapiens will leave due to starvation instead of dying. Occurs once the sapien is elderly, after a few more years. There is no way to prevent this from occurring.

Critical Injury
When a sapien suffers from a minor injury which gets infected, or when they are attacked by a mammoth, they can suffer a major injury, which is visible as a major negative status effect. This can cause them to die.

Critical Viral Infection
Critical Burn
Traits
All sapiens are born with traits that affect certain aspects of the game. These traits can be categorized into two types:

*Role Modifiers, or traits that modify the effectiveness of a sapien to carrying out an assigned role
Reproduction and Inheritance
*Behavior Modifiers, or traits that modify a sapien's inherent behaviors and characteristics.
Pregnancy Requirements
A female adult may become pregnant if:
* Resources: The tribe has at least 5 food items.
* Population: The tribe is under the population cap.
* Social: High bond/mood with a male seen within the last 300 seconds.
* Loyalty: Above "mild negative" mood.

Role Modifiers
Inheritance Logic
These traits modify how effective a sapien is at carrying out a role they have been assigned.
* Skin Color: A 33.3% chance each for Mother's tone, Father's tone, or a linear 50/50 average.

* Genetics: Hair and eye color have a 50% chance to be inherited from the father; otherwise, they default to the mother.
* Social Status: Children inherit the mother’s Tribe ID, Nomad status, and current skill priorities (Roles).

Behavior Modifiers
Traits and Health
These traits modify characteristics that are inherent to a sapien.
* Trait Generation: Sapiens are born with 1 to 3 random traits.
* Learning Speed: Traits like Clever/Slow modify the base learning rate exponentially. Clever sapiens learn ~1.41x faster, while Slow sapiens learn ~0.71x as fast.
* Immunity: The "Immune" trait doubles the base virus immunity duration (from 16 days to 32 days), while "Weak Immunity" halves it.
* Environment: Clothing (woolskins) and warm beds protect sapiens by shifting their effective temperature zone toward "Moderate."

Death
* Old Age: Sapiens die after 70 days of life (displayed as Age 75).
* Grieving: Death causes family and friends (bond > 0.5) to suffer a 0-happiness status effect.
* Hazards: Sapiens can die from starvation, hypothermia, or critical injuries (mammoth attacks or infected wounds).

A male Sapien in a coat.

Overview

A sapien is a human that lives in the game. These sapiens make up your tribe and do the work that the tribe needs. Sapiens possess unique physical characteristics, genetic traits, and skill sets determined at birth through a mix of inheritance and random generation.

Age

Each sapien has an age associated with it, representing its current stage of life. Sapiens live for a total of 70 days, though the in-game UI displays their age as 5 at birth and 75 at the end of their lifespan.

Baby

 • Duration: 1 day.
 • Status: Carried by the mother; the mother cannot perform skills requiring heavy lifting during this time.
 • Gender: Determined by a random 50/50 roll at the moment of birth.

Child

 • Duration: 10 days.
 • Physical Limits: Cannot perform heavy lifting, carry babies, or become pregnant.
 • Movement: 1.1x walk speed multiplier. Animation speed is 1.5x faster to account for smaller leg span.
 • Eye Height: 0.9m (Standing) / 0.6m (Sitting).

Adult

 • Duration: 50 days.
 • Capabilities: Primary labor phase with a 1.5x walk speed multiplier.
 • Reproduction: Females are fertile until they reach 70% of this stage (Day 46 of total life). There is a 4.1-day minimum cooldown between pregnancies.
 • Eye Height: 1.5m (Standing) / 0.8m (Sitting).

Elderly

 • Duration: 10 days.
 • Physical Limits: Cannot perform heavy lifting or reproduce. Moves at base (1.0x) speed.
 • Death: Occurs automatically once the 10-day duration is complete.
 • Eye Height: 1.5m (Standing) / 0.8m (Sitting).

Reproduction and Inheritance

Pregnancy Requirements

A female adult may become pregnant if:

 • Resources: The tribe has at least 5 food items.
 • Population: The tribe is under the population cap.
 • Social: High bond/mood with a male seen within the last 300 seconds.
 • Loyalty: Above "mild negative" mood.

Inheritance Logic

 • Skin Color: A 33.3% chance each for Mother's tone, Father's tone, or a linear 50/50 average.
 • Genetics: Hair and eye color have a 50% chance to be inherited from the father; otherwise, they default to the mother.
 • Social Status: Children inherit the mother’s Tribe ID, Nomad status, and current skill priorities (Roles).

Traits and Health

 • Trait Generation: Sapiens are born with 1 to 3 random traits.
 • Learning Speed: Traits like Clever/Slow modify the base learning rate exponentially. Clever sapiens learn ~1.41x faster, while Slow sapiens learn ~0.71x as fast.
 • Immunity: The "Immune" trait doubles the base virus immunity duration (from 16 days to 32 days), while "Weak Immunity" halves it.
 • Environment: Clothing (woolskins) and warm beds protect sapiens by shifting their effective temperature zone toward "Moderate."

Death

 • Old Age: Sapiens die after 70 days of life (displayed as Age 75).
 • Grieving: Death causes family and friends (bond > 0.5) to suffer a 0-happiness status effect.
 • Hazards: Sapiens can die from starvation, hypothermia, or critical injuries (mammoth attacks or infected wounds).
